Dave Grohl Teams with Charlie Benante and Scott Ian for Bad Brains Tribute

Converging as GBI, the trio ripped a rendition of  “The Regulator” from the 1982 debut album from the punk icons.

Rock music pillars Dave Grohl along with Anthrax's Scott Ian and Charlie Benante have teamed for a special Record Store Day exclusive that also serves to pay homage to punk rock revolutionaries.

Under the name GBI, the trio leaned into their punk pedigree by recording a rendition of "The Regulator" from Bad Brains 1982 self-titled ddbut. Released as a Record Store Day seven-inch exclusive, the release will be limited to just 6000 copies, making the track truly exclusive.

All proceeds from the release will go towards healthcare costs for Bad Brains’ frontman Paul D. Hudson, forever known as H.R. The punk icon suffers from rare, severe headaches known as SUNCT.

As for the genesis of the project, the story goes that Anthrax was recording new material for their next album at Grohl’s 606 Studios. Foo Fighters happened to be in the thick of rehearsals in the same studios.

While the bands would cross paths casually as they worked, it was Ian that initiated the idea, texting Grohl and suggesting a cover of ”The Regulator." Ian confirmed, “Charlie and I asked Dave if he’d play drums and sing as well, and he was in. Charlie played bass, and I was on guitar. We ripped the song live in two takes.”

Ian continued, "It was so much fun to get to play with Dave on drums and to hear his voice with my guitar. We’re all such huge Bad Brains fans - hope you all get a copy.”
