After more than 30 years in the squared circle and some 27 Wrestlemania appearances, it looks as though The Undertaker has in fact, retired. During the final episode of his docuseries The Last Ride, Taker discussed punctuating his long, illustrious career with his riveting Boneyard Match against one of the WWE's best in AJ Styles. According to the Deadman, he has no desire to step back into the ring.
“If there was ever a perfect ending to a career, that right there was it. If Vince was in a pinch, would I come back? I guess time would only tell there. In case of emergency, break glass, you pull out The Undertaker. I would consider it. At this point in my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring,” he said.
For context, The Undertaker made his first Wrestlemania appearance in 1991 against WWE Hall of Fame, Superfly Jimmy Snuka. In the subsequent years since, Taker has faced every generational superstar and gone 25-2 throughout his wresting career on the MainStage that is Wrestlemania.
His final appearance would be one of his most compelling as the Boneyard Match was devised as a way to continue on with the show despite the Covid crisis and needed to quickly pivot and change how wrestling was going to happen without crowds and the conventional arena setting. The result was a theatrical production that felt like the fight finale in a blockbuster movie. In the end, Undertaker would ride off victorious.
