Sunami send hardcore reeling with surprise release of self-titled full length debut

- By Ramon Gonzales

The Triple B LP has long been anticipated and true to form, the band veered left of center for its unexpected release.

And just like that, with zero fanfare and no warning, metallic hardcore juggernaut Sunami has unloaded their mammoth full length debut via Triple B Records. Since the band's 2019 inception, the San Jose collective has built a reputation for the unconventional - cultivating a rabid fanbase with their volatile stage show and DIY approach.

Though the band has released plenty of recorded music prior to the full length via a self-titled EP, a split with since disbanded legends Gulch and a 2022 3-track beatdown in six minutes with their Promo release, the debut album has become something of lore in the world of hardcore.

Skipping the rollout, the strategy and the theatrics of a conventional release campaign, the band has dropped the eagerly-awaited debut and the result is a sub 20-minute clobbering in eight tracks of pure hostility.

Enlisting Charles Toshio to complete the project, the album features two previously released singles in "Six" initially featured on the 2022 Promo release (the recorded intro on the previous version is hard AF) and “Contempt Of Cop” Sunami's 2019 introduction.

The arrival of the celebrated debut is being coupled with the tease of something in the works with Los Angeles-based burger specialists, Burgerlords. Hitting social media with a 'Save the Date" scheduled for June 16th through the 18th, the fast-casual burger champs specializing in Vegan patties and Tahini milkshakes likely have some tasty in the works.
