The Weekly Drop 10.14.20

- By Harris David

Two of the biggest and most anticipated collaborations of the year drop this week. Plus more of the sneakers that deserve all the hype this week.

Another week. Another collection of sneakers that deserve all the hype.

Two of the biggest and most anticipated collaborations of the year just so happen to be dropping this week. For folks looking to pick up both, luckily for you they release on different days making life easier for you. And for those on a budget, a big decision looms.

This week also brings two separate holiday themed packs from Reebok and Nike. Both brands blended some 90s classics with our favorite autumnal holidays.

Let's get into it, here are the shoes we're looking to add to our closets this week.

Reebok "Boktober" Pack

Release: Oct 14th, 2020 at Reebok.com | Price: $120-$150

The "Boktober" pack features some iconic 90s Reebok silhouettes, including Shaq's Shaqnosis from 1995, Shawn Kemp's Kamikazi II from 1995 and finally Allen Iverson's Question from his rookie year in 1996.

As you can see in the picture above, Reebok went all out on the Halloween theme. The Shaqnosis is sporting a huge spider web graphic while the Kamikazi II is decked out in Orange, Black and Cream. The Questions, on the other hand aren't as on the nose as the other two. Iverson's iconic shoe features a tear away upper and when ripped, exposes a fiery pattern underneath.

Supreme x Nike Air Max Plus Collection

Release: Oct 15th, 2020 at Supreme | Price: TBA

The Nike Air Max Plus is getting the Supreme treatment for their Fall 2020 collection. As many folks know, a Supreme x Nike collaboration is expected once or twice every year. Although the drops are expected, they are not taken for granted as the releases are huge hits 99.9% of the time. These are no different, as all three colors are definitely on the right side of that statistic. If you look at the shoes closely, you'll notice the plastic cages on the side of the shoe spell out Supreme.

The Nike Air Max Plus or TNs (stands for Tuned Air) originally released in back in 1998 in some pretty awesome color ways. A quick personal story, I wanted these shoes so bad when they came out but the Air Max line has always been quite expensive so there was no way I was getting them. Fast forward to my high school's freshman orientation, I saw a girl wearing a pair. I remember staring at her shoes and looking up to discover she was glaring back at me like I was a pervert but honestly I just loved her shoes.

Nike Kobe 5 Protro " 5 Rings"

Release: Oct 15th, 2020 on Nike SNKRS App | Price: $180

As the Lakers are coming off their 17th NBA Finals Championship it is super appropriate that Nike honors the team and the late Kobe Bryant by releasing the Kobe 5. Kobe wore this model back in the 2009-2010 NBA season, on his way to beating the Celtics for his 5th title. You may have noticed a handful of current NBA players wearing the model as it is often recognized as one of the best basketball shoes of all time.

The particular color way honors Kobe's 5th title. The shoe sports Laker purple and yellow and is etched with special graphics that highlight some of Kobe’s most memorable moments and accomplishments.

Nike "Dia de los Muertos" Collection

Release: Oct 15th, 2020 at Nike.com | Price: $100-$140

The Nike "Dia de los Muertos" Collection originally released exclusively in Mexico but the rest of the world will get a chance to buy these beautiful shoes later this week. The collection includes an Air Jordan 1 Mid, Air Max 90, Blazer Mid, and Daybreak that pay homage to the Dia de los Muerto's traditional altar and its decorations.

This a great follow up to last year's collection that included an Air Force 1, Air Max 95 and Cortez.

Union x Air Jordan 4 "Off Noir"

Release: Oct 16th, 2020 on Nike SNKRS App | Price: $250

The Union x Air Jordan 4 is definitely the biggest release of the week and a likely candidate for sneaker of the year. However, when pictures of the shoe first released folks weren't so enthused. Once the official pictures came out and influencers were seen wearing the shoe, a lot of internet trolls had to eat their words. The "Off Noir" color way released earlier this year via Union and has seen some random scavenger hunt like releases on the Nike SNKRS app. The Guava color way also released earlier this year exclusively at the Union store and is likely not to be released online.

Chris Gibbs and his Union team are following up their 2018 sneaker of the year Air Jordan 1 with another soon to be highly coveted release. Union does a great job of not only choosing great color palettes but changing just enough of the shoe to make it their own without damaging the integrity of the classic silhouette. The folded tongue was Gibbs' idea, he always felt the tongue on the Jordan 4 was too long.
