The pioneer of partying offers a brilliant blend of styles to craft a track that translates as both classic and contemporary.
Two decades in and Andrew WK has not only managed to keep pace with the with the world of heavy music, he’s charging ahead of the pack.
The champion of PMA and undisputed God of partying made recent headlines when he announced that he was beginning the next chapter of his career with global rock music authority, Napalm Records. Continuing the slow, albeit steady rollout, Andrew then unveiled that “Babalon” would be the first serving of the 2021 iteration of the world of WK.
Finally, that track has arrived and the impact of the introduction has nothing short of emphatic. Simple, searing guitars, Andrew crushing on keys, and a persistent percussive pulse anchor an anthem that touts an almost traditional metal sound. Culminating in a vocal crescendo that allows Andrew to flex his range with a mighty high note plucked right from the golden era of heavy music, “Babalon” maintains Andrew WK’s prowess as the ambassador of the party, while underscoring his abilities as a songwriter.
As for the accompanying visual, the aim was to ensure that the aesthetic was as equally epic as the music providing the soundtrack. Teleporting fans to a new place of consciousness, the visual offers a welcomed reprieve from the heaviness of our current day-to-day reality.
Director Michael R.C., explained,“With ‘Babalon’, we wanted the audience to slink back down Andrew’s tower and storm the gateway to the city of pyramids with him, or someone who looks like him. We had all been working really hard to lay thee gagging monster down, so it would dwell forever in the chasm of frivolous forming. All these images come from there, from where it’s going. That’s where we put Andrew.”
The director clarified the intent of the lofty language by summing up the intention behind both the track and the video. “Consciousness hasn’t opened reality, only nightmares. Zone-out now.”
