The SoCal hardcore trailblazers announce their eighth full-length studio album with the release of the tracks “Underrated” and the Travis Barker guested “Warrior”
Hardcore crossover veterans Atreyu have set a June 4th date for the release of their eighth full-length studio effort entitled, ‘Baptize’.
Coupled with the announcement of the Spinefarm Records release, the band has delivered two offerings from the album in a pair of single that embody the latest era of the OC outfit. “Underrated” delivers a unique balance of rock music modernity, combined with Atreyu’s unmistakable sound.
Enlisting the talent of percussion virtuoso Travis Barker for “Warrior,” the track resonates as a rallying cry, an emphatic testament to the band’s resilience and staying power.
“‘Warrior’ is song about persistence and never giving up,” explains the band. “We hope this song can be the puzzle piece that helps people realize that we ALL have the capacity for greatness. Sometimes, greatness can exist in the shadows and lives buried under negativity, trauma, or anxiety. ‘Warrior’ is about searching through all of that endless darkness to finally find the sunrise.”
Atreyu detailed the grandiose quality of the track. “When we wrote ‘Warrior,’ the idea to do a big marching drum break came about. We wanted it to feel like a hometown football game. Travis Barker was the perfect person to bring this to life. It’s cool to have him be a part of the song and to perform in a different light than what people may be used to.”
As for “Underrated,” the band explains the depth of the track is rooted in both the music and the message. “We’ve always had to prove ourselves. We’ve never been handed anything nor have we taken any shortcuts. It’s never been ‘the easy way.’ Over two decades later, we’re still making our mark.”
‘Baptize’ is the band’s eighth full length LP and the first without former vocalist Alex Varkatzas. The album presents the latest iteration of the band that showcases the line up of Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel on guitars, Portner McKnight on bass and backing vocals, Kyle Rosa handling drums, and Brandon Saller emerging from behind the kit and stepping into focus as the band’s frontman.
The album will feature guesting contributions from the likes of Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach, Matt Heafy of Trivium, and of course, Travis Barker of just about everything. Stream “Underrated” and “Warrior” below.
