The Metallica Podcast brings fans closer to the heavy metal tightens than ever before, and this week, volume one of the series is back with its second episode. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of their self-titled album, aka “the black album,” this installment explores the production style of Bob Rock.
Alongside the band members themselves, Rock joins the conversion to illuminate the “growing pains that led to trust” while recording Metallica’s fifth studio album. Special guests also include Jason Newsted, Alice Cooper, Rob Halford, and Big Mick Hughes.
The weekly episodes also include rare demo recordings, never before heard stories, and more surprises that make listeners feel as if they were entrenched in the original recording process. Originally released in August 1991 via Elekta Records, the black album features some of Metallica’s most iconic singles such as “Enter Sandman,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “Nothing Else Matters.” The 16-time platinum album and its unassuming all-black album cover would catapult Metallica into superstardom.
Celebrating its both critical and commercial acclaim 30 years ago, Metallica is re-releasing the black album this September 10 via the band’s own label, Blackened Recordings. This issue will feature remastered sound quality on your voice of vinyl, CD, or digital. Limited edition box sets will also include live LPs, a picture disc, 14 CDs consisting of rare mixes, demos, and live demos, a 120-page hardcover book, tour laminates, guitar picks, lyric sheets, a branded lanyard and more.
Preorders are available through Metallica’s official webstore: https://www.metallica.com/store/
Metallica will be wrapping up 2021 with a United States tour before heading off to Europe next year. Tickets for some U.S. shows are still available: https://www.metallica.com/tour/
