Mark Morton On the Brotherhood of Lamb of God

Mark Morton On the Brotherhood of Lamb of God

The guitarist reflects on self-titled record as a career milestone and a true collaborative effort.

"Man, I love what I do," says Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton. While revisiting the process of making the band's recent self-titled release, there is a genuine enthusiasm that would presumably fade with most bands that have been at this for more than two decades. Then again, Lamb of God would not fit into the category of 'most bands.'

Checking in with Terry Bezer on the latest segment of Mosh Talks, Morton discussed that while he didn't like comparing albums, he did feel like the band was particularly dialed in for this release. Citing significant time away from recording, a true collaborative effort that had the entire band in the studio together, and the vigor of Art Cruz behind the kit, Morton explained that creative process resonated well as the band was in a good place.

Morton acknowledged there was some added mystique in recording their record on the same board that recorded timeless classics like Nirvana's Nevermind, Rage Against the Machine's self-titled record, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Damn the Torpedos.

The conversation naturally veered towards the current strange times and how bands, including Lamb of God, have had to pivot to find new ways to connect with fans. Referencing their recent Quarantine Session, Morton kept things optimistic and discussed how he felt that the true creative types will find ways to adapt and thrive.

The last time Cigarettes After Sex played a headline show in the UK was in a pre-Covid world, and the extensive queue line full of eager fans outside of Manchester’s O2 Apollo on the first night of the band’s return tour is hard proof of just how much they’ve been missed on these shores.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
