Screen Crusades Trailer Round-Up May 2023

Tons of new movies and series are coming out in the next few months, and we've put together the biggest and most exciting trailers of the bunch

It's already been a very busy year at the movies. New original horror hits like M3GAN and Skinamarink, along with the return of franchises like Scream, John Wick and Evil Dead have helped keep theaters alive and well in 2023. We've also been treated to films like 80 for Brady, Plane, and Cocaine Bear, as well as both Marvel and DC already throwing their hats in the 2023 superhero ring with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, respectively.

And yet the year is still just getting warmed up. There's a lot of great stuff still coming down the pipeline on both the big and small screen, and these past few weeks have been filled with a treasure trove of exciting trailers. We've put together a list of everything from action to horror to sci-fi that's yet to come in 2023. Let us know what you're most excited about watching!

'Sanctuary' May 25th - Theaters

A wickedly dark comedy follows dominatrix, Rebecca (Margaret Qualley), and her wealthy client, Hal (Christopher Abbott), as they engage in a high stakes role playing game for power and control. In the wake of inheriting his father’s hotel chain, Hal attempts to end his long and secret relationship with Rebecca. A battle of wills ensues over the course of one incredibly fraught night, with both Rebecca and Hal struggling to keep the upper hand as the power dynamics swing wildly back and forth.

'FUBAR' May 25th - Netflix

Heroes don't retire. They reload. Arnold Schwarzenegger is starring in his first series ever! When a father and daughter learn that they’ve each secretly been working as CIA Operatives for years, they realize their entire relationship has been a lie and they truly don’t know one another at all. Forced to team up as partners, FUBAR tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, fantastic action and humor.

'The Wrath of Becky' May 26th - Theaters

Two years after she escaped a violent attack on her family, Becky (Lulu Wilson) attempts to rebuild her life in the care of an older woman - a kindred spirit named Elena (Jill Larson). But when a group known as the “Noble Men” break into their home, attack them, and take her beloved dog, Diego, Becky must return to her old ways to protect herself and her loved ones.

'Influencer' May 25th - Shudder

Influencer tells the story of Madison (Emily Tennant), a popular social media influencer who is having a lonely and uneventful trip in Thailand despite what she tells her followers on Instagram. While reflecting on her boyfriend canceling the trip, she meets CW (Cassandra Naud), a fearless and enigmatic traveler who offers to take her to some of the most Instagram-worthy locations. Together they share authentic meals and drinks with locals, discussing the differences between Madison's online presence and CW's lack of one. After showing Madison all of the amazing sights, things take a different turn when CW brings her to a surprise location - a deserted island that is completely off the grid.

'The Boogeyman' June 2nd - Theaters

High school student Sadie Harper (Sophie Thatcher) and her younger sister Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair) are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will (Chris Messina), a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims. The film is directed by Rob Savage (Host) with a screenplay by Scott Beck & Bryan Woods (A Quiet Place) and Mark Heyman (Black Swan), and is based upon the short story by Stephen King.

'Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' June 9th - Theaters

Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the existing battle for earth. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback.

'Extraction 2' June 16th - Netflix

After barely surviving the events of the first movie, Rake (Chris Hemsworth) is back as the Australian black ops mercenary, tasked with another deadly mission: rescuing the battered family of a ruthless Georgian gangster from the prison where they are being held. Hemsworth reunites with director Sam Hargrave, with Joe and Anthony Russo's AGBO producing and Joe Russo writing.

'The Flash' June 26th - Theaters

Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry (Ezra Miller) uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod (Michael Shannon) has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no super heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman (Michael Keaton) out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

'The Witcher (Season 3)' June 29th - Netflix

The newest season of the show, which is inspired by the second installment in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher book series, Time of Contempt, will finally see our hero Geralt (Henry Cavill) reckoning with his feelings after two seasons of steely, tough-guy detachment.

'Black Mirror (Season 6)' June - Netflix

'Insidious: The Red Door' July 7th - Theaters

In Insidious: The Red Door, the horror franchise’s original cast returns for the final chapter of the Lambert family’s terrifying saga. To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Patrick Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Ty Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door. The original cast from Insidious is back with Patrick Wilson (also making his directorial debut), Ty Simpkins, Rose Byrne, and Andrew Astor.

'Twisted Metal' July 27th - Peacock

Based on the popular and chaotic video game series, Twisted Metal follows a motor-mouthed outsider (Anthony Mackie) offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

'Gran Turismo' August 11th - Theaters

Directed by Neill Blomkamp and based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe), this film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.

'Blue Beetle' August 18th - Theaters

Recent college grad Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the super hero Blue Beetle.

'The Equalizer 3' September 1st - Theaters

Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia. The final chapter comes to theaters this fall.

'A Haunting in Venice' September 15th - Theaters

A Haunting in Venice is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve. It's a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh). Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

'Dune: Part Two' November 3rd - Theaters

The saga continues as award-winning filmmaker Denis Villeneuve embarks on Dune: Part Two, the next chapter of Frank Herbert’s celebrated novel Dune, with an expanded all-star international ensemble cast. The film, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, is the highly anticipated follow-up to 2021’s six-time Academy Award-winning Dune. Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

'The Marvels' November 10th - Theaters

In the latest superhero team-up adventure from Marvel Studios, Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) gets her powers entangled with those of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), forcing them to work together to save the universe.

'The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' November 17th - Theaters

Experience the story of The Hunger Games — 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute, and decades before Coriolanus Snow became the tyrannical President of Panem. This prequel follows a young Coriolanus (Tom Blyth) who is the last hope for his failing lineage, the once-proud Snow family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol. With his livelihood threatened, Snow is reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), a tribute from the impoverished District 12.
