Further adding to the momentum generated with the release of their turbo-charged standalone single that dropped earlier this spring in "Escape," PA metalcore crew Execution Day have returned with another strong showing, diversifying their arsenal of songwriting prowess.
The band's latest jaunt in "Hollow," sees the outfit welcoming new personnel including Chad Sutliff on the beat. The track is the second to showcase the added dynamic of guitarist Alec Coslow assuming vocal duties along with frontman Dylan Dively. Replicating the same tandem vocal attack featured on "Escape," it would seem as though the Pennsylvania prospects have perfected their refinement and are ready to proceed full speed ahead.
"This track really took us out of our comfort zone," says vocalist Dylan Dively. "We wanted to write/put something out that was different, something we never have done before."
Veering left of center, "Hollow" offers a stylistic departure for the band - embracing arena-ready melody and gigantic choruses in a track that translates like a metalcore ballad with none of the typical cheese. Stanzas like, "I start to fantasize about not being here tomorrow," point to a heavy catharsis that give the song additional substance rooting an offering that already scores big in style points.
Since their 2017 debut EP From the Bottom of my Heart, Execution Day has established themselves as an emerging prospect in a new wave of radio-savvy metalcore artists. Asserting a balance of aggression and heft, we the kind of songwriting that sticks, "Hollow" functions as the latest show of strength in their ever-evolving sound.
