With Paramount Pictures revealing a sinister first look at the 'Scram' reboot last week with the unveiling of the film's official poster, it was only a brief matter of time before the highly-anticipated trailer surfaced.
The trailer for the first installment of the franchise since creator Wes Caven's death looks to be a fantastic tribute to the generational-chills that made that mask so iconic. Directed by the tandem of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film brings back original cast members in Courteney Cox, David Arquette and Neve Campbell in a modernization in a glimpse that conveys all the stress of the OG slasher.
There are also a host of new names added to the ensemble cast in Marley Shelton, Kyle Gallner, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sonia Ammar and Dylan Minnette. As for the storyline of the latest edition of the franchise, Scream picks up some 25 years after the initial shocking murders took place in the small town of Woodsboro. A new killer is now donning the Ghostface mask and reviving the horrors that plagued the town a generation ago.
The film's executive producer is Kevin Williamson, who also penned the first very Scream screenplay. He was adamant about carrying on the vision of Wes Craven and reiterated that standard of integrity to the film's latest scribes, James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. If the trailer is any indication, this reboot would have made Craven proud.
The film is the first installment in the series in a decade and is already one of the most anticipated releases of the new year. Watch the official trailer for the fifth Scream film below. The movie releases January 14th, 2022.
