The beloved departed bassist of Deftones, Chi Cheng, will have his 2001 spoken word performance from Sacramento's Paris Cafe remastered and released posthumous, as his second album in the category.
The LP is being coined The Head-Up Project and follows Cheng's debut spoken world LP, The Bamboo Parachute that was released in 2000. The Head Up Project was recorded as a live set and has since been remastered by Qumran Records. The 24-track offering is being released in conjunction with seatbelt awareness organization Buckle Up for Chi.
Cheng tragically passed away in 2013, after living in a semi-comatose state for five years due to a car accident that happened in 2008. Deftones' 2006 Saturday Night Wrist was the last album Cheng released with the band.
Buckle Up for Chi serves as a means to promote seatbelt safety, but also works to continue the love and legacy of the veteran musician.
They shared the following in a statement, "Through this initiative and our loyal community, we will continue to support each other, spread peace, music, love, and as always: fly high. We hold close and keep to the tenets that Chi stood for: caring, kindness and empathy. We continue to honor those ideas, Chi's legacy, and thank you all for being apart of the Buckle Up for Chi community."
