Amazon is giving The Boys an R-Rated spinoff

Amazon is doubling down on the success of the superhero satire.

In a report filed by Variety, Amazon has green-lit and is now fast-tracking a spinoff to their hugely successful superhero series, The Boys.

Just how successful has the show proven for Amazon? The launch was the single most-watch show in the history of the streaming service, ever. In fact, numbers show that the audience growth from Season 1 to Season 2 was some 89%. Keep in mind, the season only started three weeks ago.

This might be in part to the kind of anticipation that has built in releasing the series episodically for this season as opposed to last's season's all at once approach.

As for the spinoff, the details thus far are that the show will focus on America’s only college exclusively for young adult superheroes or “supes.” The college is also run by Vought International.

Craig Rosenberg will serve as the show runner and will pen the series. The main show creator Eric Kripke is onboard as executive producer for this spinoff as are Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver of Point Grey Pictures.

Episode 6 (The Bloody Doors Off) of The Boys premieres on Amazon September 25th.
