Antebellum will skip theaters and stream direct in September

- By Ramon Gonzales

One of the most anticipated horror films of 2020 is pivoting to video on demand format only.

After facing some significant delays and even the possibility of shelving the release all together, Antebellum is officially set for a September 18th release date.

Opting to skip the theatrical release entirely, Lionsgate is making the film available for streaming/VOD platforms so that audiences can view the film from the comfort of their own homes.

Directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, Antebellum stars Janelle Monae, as author Veronica Henley. The details of the plot have been purposely vague but Monae's character transitions from the modern day to a plantation in pre-Civil war era while trying to escape "a horrifying reality."

From the producers of US and Get Out, Antebellum would have been one of the most anticipated films of the year with or without the pandemic.
