Apple is Officially Making Their Own 'Godzilla' Series

The MonsterVerse is set to continue with a live-action series on AppleTV+

The MonsterVerse isn't done just yet. After bringing tons of kaiju mayhem to theaters (and helping save the box office in the process) early last year with Godzilla vs. Kong, the shared cinematic MonsterVerse came to its apparent climactic end in a battle between two of the most iconic monsters to ever grace the big screen. The journey began in 2014 with Godzilla before expanding with Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and it's now poised to continue the action between humans and Titans on the small screen.

AppleTV+ has announced that they're partnering with Legendary Entertainment to keep the MonsterVerse going in a fresh direction. Series co-creators Chris Black (Star Trek: Enterprise), who will also serve as showrunner, and comic book author Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) will tell the story of Godzilla and the Titans while also unfolding the journey of a family that’s trying to uncover its own buried secrets and its links to the secret Monarch organization and a world that has been forced to realize monsters are a real thing.

This is one of the biggest announcements to come from the relatively new and upcoming streaming service, which has managed to score a handful of acclaimed original films - like Joel Coen's The Tragedy of Macbeth - as well as series from filmmakers like M. Night Shyamalan and Simon Kinberg. AppleTV+ is quickly looking to make itself a must-have service with must-see content, and a Godzilla series is likely to give it a considerable boost.

The series will be produced by Legendary Television alongside Safehouse Pictures’ Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell and Toho Co. Ltd. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita will executive produce for Toho, who own the rights to everyone's favorite atomic lizard. The series looks like it will be set after the events of the 2014 Godzilla but before both King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong.
