ArcTanGent is the kind of festival a fan of heavy music dreams about.
Taking place from August 19 through the 22, it brings together the most exciting artists in metal, progressive, experimental, noise, mathcore, alt rock and beyond. It’s been a music lover’s pilgrimage for 13 years and counting.
Now in its last year at Fernhill Farm in Bristol, England – the only home the festival has known since 2014 – ArcTanGent 2026 promises to send off this chapter of its history in grand style.
The lineup includes performances from Alcest, Sikth, Perturbator, High on Fire, Eivør, Chat Pile, Lost in Kiev, Conjurer, Nothing, Witch Fever and so many more. But the following sets are ones that really shouldn’t be missed:
Chelsea Wolfe

Just one night before her new album The Dark releases to the public, Chelsea Wolfe will cap Thursday night’s festivities with a set that’s sure to include stunning new tracks like “Death Is Not the End” and “Cold”.
Seeing Wolfe live is an out-of-body experience. Her otherworldly voice pierces through everything, and the stage production drapes her in an almost incorporeal atmosphere. ArtTanGent promises an opportunity to hear some of her music for the first time, while also reveling in any and all cuts from her unrivaled discography.
Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas perform Mariner

For its 10th anniversary, Swedish post-metal juggernauts Cult of Luna will once again team up with Brooklyn vocalist Julie Christmas to perform the album Mariner in full.
The collaborative concept album was met with critical acclaim, ending up on several year-end “Best Of” lists in 2016. Utilizing Cult of Luna’s vast and cinematic soundscape with the raw and dynamic power of Christmas’ voice, it’s a musical journey that can’t be replicated.
It’s not every day you get to see it live in its entirety, and the fields at Fernhill Farm are going to be transformed into cosmic pathways for almost an hour.
Primus

Making their first appearance at ArcTanGent, the legendary alt/funk/prog/experimental rock band represent everything the festival is about. Primus is weird and nonsensical, and they bend music theory to their will, playing by no rules but their own.
In a year that already includes the likes of The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, Alpha Male Tea Party and Pupil Slicer to name a few, there’ll be no shortage of musicians shoving their noses up at convention.
But what’ll be even crazier is when people that think they don’t know Primus’ discography find themselves jamming to “My Name Is Mud”, “John the Fisherman” and “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver” and other songs embedded in the culture. It’s a testament to how a ridiculous band from California became ubiquitous just by being themselves.
Svalbard

This will be emotional.
Svalbard announced in 2025 that they’d be calling it quits in 2026 after 15 years together. Bristol is their home turf, and they’ve appeared on the ATG bill three previous times.
So get ready for tears and plenty of cathartic screaming as the band play one of their final shows in front of people that have been there since the beginning. Their energetic and emotive blend of hardcore and shoegaze is going to electrify the audience, who will no doubt be speaking of this set for years to come.
Oathbreaker
Earlier this year, Oathbreaker returned from a long hiatus to perform their soulcrushing album Rheia at Roadburn. It’s an album that can knock a listener down with sheer power, like a tidal wave crashing into a rock face.
Their unique blend of post-metal, black metal and hardcore/crust-punk, paired with vocalist Caro Tanghe’s sheer ferocity, made them a force throughout the 2010s. Seeing them back on stage can only mean good things, and they will no doubt have a waiting crowd willing to be sonically eviscerated.
Igorrr

You really never know what you’re going to get with an Igorrr album, and the same could be said for a live performance.
Will there be most of a whole orchestra on stage? How many different unknown instruments in plain view? Will there be any farm animals or large machinery to hit a piano? The French musician brings together disparate musical genres, yet somehow manages to weave them together in a (mostly) coherent piece that will warp your brain.
A.A. Williams

London-based songwriter and composer A.A. Williams just released her latest album Solstice earlier this year, and it’s possibly the best thing she’s done. ArtTanGent should offer a cozy and accommodating locale to unleash her newest material.
She’s opened for the likes of Sleep Token and A Perfect Circle, and will be joining Chelsea Wolfe on a European tour later this fall. Williams has made a name for herself with the crushing and haunting beauty that permeates each of her songs. It’s the kind of gloom that a listener wants to submerge themselves in. Given the makeup of music fans at this festival, odds are that her tent will be completely silent as each person waits for her wall of sound to knock them right to the ground.
Napalm Death
One of the best bands to ever pick up a set of instruments, and probably a direct influence on more than half the lineup.
For over 40 years, UK crushers Napalm Death have been writing and re-writing the rules of extreme music, and they’re still producing relevant and engaging material. It’s not hyperbole to say a festival like ArcTanGent wouldn’t exist without Napalm Death.
Getting a chance to see the band only 90 minutes away from where they first started rattling eardrums and splitting skulls is something that shouldn’t be missed.
