For all intents and purposes, Black Mirror has become the modern day version of The Twilight Zone. Filled with original stories of the perils and horrors of rapidly advancing technology and the ways it will affect us all, the anthology series has become an international sensation throughout its five seasons. Unanimous critical acclaim, with praise for its atmosphere, ideas, direction, writing, performances and effects, have certainly helped too.
It's been a very long time since we last dove into the series' familiar dystopia. The past years have had people remarking on how we no longer need the show, since our own reality became just as bad if not worse. The fifth season was released in 2019 and was a meager three episodes long. Season 4, the last full-length season of the show came out five years ago in 2017, with the only Black Mirror content of 2018 being the interactive Netflix film Bandersnatch.
Even with dystopia existing right outside our doors, the series has still been sorely missed in its own way. Thankfully, Season 6 of Black Mirror is officially a go, with some new details about the upcoming batch of episodes and an impressive cast list to boot. The new episodes will reportedly be "more cinematic in scope" with each being "treated as an individual film"
Season 6 will include Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton, and Anjana Vasan. This group is reportedly set to star in the first three episodes, with the second half of the season likely to receive more announcements soon. No details regarding the actual plots have been revealed yet, but the season is already well into production. Hopefully a release date and some first looks aren't far behind.
'Black Mirror' returns for its sixth season in 2023.
