The series revisits the grizzly murders said to be human sacrifice for a Satanic cult led by convicted murderer Carl Drew.

Horror specialists Blumhouse is launching a 4-part true-crime docuseries with EPIX focusing on the grizzly murders of three women in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1979.

The lore of the city is rooted in the mystique of alleged axe murderer Lizzie Borden, and almost a century later, would be again marred with a succession of horrific crimes that were said to be human sacrifice as part of a Satanic cult. Carl Drew, the alleged cult leader, was eventually arrested and convicted of the crimes and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The series now examines the totality of the case and a new investigation launched by the initial lead investigator, Paul Carey. Haunted by the case, the retired detective dove back into the specifics of the series of murders and began uncovering new evidence that changes the narrative of the crimes.

The press release explains the direction of the docuseries, "Now through exclusive interviews, including intimate conversations with Drew, new witnesses and illuminating evidence, this documentary series will tell the true story of a town caught in the grips of the paranoia and fear around the 1980s Satanic Panic, and will shed light on murders that were thought to have been solved.”

Fall River does more than chronicle the sensational murders that beset this town, but gives a face and voice to the marginalized victims, women who, because they were sex workers, did not receive the care and attention warranted during the investigation into their deaths,” adds Mary Lisio, EVP Alternative and Non-Scripted Programming, Blumhouse Television. “Over the course of filming, we uncovered aspects of the investigation that were previously unknown, new evidence, that 41 years later bring us closer to the truth of what really happened to these women.”

'Fall River' arrives on EPIX starting May 16th. Watch the teaser trailer below.
