Just last weekend, PA hardcore trailblazers Code Orange took on the festival community at Coachella and scored a big win for the heavy contingent with an electric set that set the bar for what has unofficially been christened "Codechella". The festival appearances were lumped into the band's current 'Out For Blood' tour that touts a ridiculously good line-up of some of the most exciting new names.
Ensuring the week between their Indio weekenders didn't go to waste, Code O managed to get in a Southern California headlining club play that saw the band thrive in their element - up-close, personal, and absolutely punishing.
Compiling a relentless set, Code Orange unleashed a live arsenal that pummeled Pomona's Glass House in a 13-song barrage that showcased the band's essentials. From "Forever" and Bleeding In the Blur" to staples from the Underneath-era like "You and You Alone" and the closer "Swallowing the Rabbit Whole" the band thrived in the sweltering hot box, energized by the sold out crowd that erupted with the start of each track.
Armed with a unique swagger and an unapologetic disposition, the band deliver live in a way that makes even the most casual fan turn devotee. Jami Morgan's command on the mic, in tandem with Reba Myers' relentless rip, lead an outfit that leave nothing in the tank when they hit the stage - with their most ardent fans responding in kind.
Adding to intrigue of a band like Code Orange is their willingness to share the spotlight with a new generation of forward thinking heavy artisans. Assembling a supporting line-up that includes UK standouts Loathe, emerging Des Moines destructors Vended and PNW hardcore practitioners Dying Wish, not only does Code O perfect their brand of outsider art but they nurture those that embrace their same defiant spirit. Few tours have this kind of continuity while all the while showcasing such diversity - no two bands sound the same and yet they all convey the kind of eruption that make a 420 club show well worth staying out late on a school night.
Code Orange performs the second weekend of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio on April 22nd and resumes their Out For Blood Tour in Las Vegas on April 23rd. The full list of remaining dates can be found below.
