The ambitious collaborative project spearheaded by thrash legends Anthrax in tandem with Z2 Comics is truly becoming a cultural bridge between heavy music and the world of comic books and visual art.
The band garnered global headlines in 2020 when they announced their joint effort with Z2 to develop a graphic novel based on their seminal 1987 thrash classic, Among the Living.
The collective art-forward anthology features a visual reimagination of longtime Anthrax mascot "The Not-Man"designed by 'The Walking Dead'/'Creepshow' mainstay, Greg Nicotero. With a storyline penned by Jimmy Palmiotti and illustrated by revered Aliens artist Nelson, the sensible collective contributing to the collection is a unique mesh of the premiere names in music and art.
Including among the contributors penning chapters for the Among the Living anthology are writers, comedian Brian Posehn, Gerard & Mike Way of My Chemical Romance, Rick Remender & Joe Trohman, Corey Taylor of Slipknot/Stone Sour, Grant Morrison, Brian Azzarello, and Rob Zombie.
Among the contributors on the illustration side of the project include respect names like Scott Koblish, Darick Robertson, Chris Weston, Roland Boschi, Mann House, Freddie Williams II, Andy Belanger, Dave Johnson, and Erik Rodriguez.
The members of Anthrax in Joey Belladonna, Frank Bello, Charlie Benante, and Scott Ian will all contribute to the project with Scott Ian penning an original plot line based on the Anthrax anthem, "I Am the Law". The chapter will feature the legendary Judge Dredd, in partnership with 2000 AD.
