Leading independent producer, promoter, and rock music ambassador Danny WImmer Presents has announced a concise version of their 2021 events calendar.
Adjusting to a post-pandemic world with an aim of bringing the live music and event experience back safely, the banner is moving ahead with plans of four major rock-focused festivals on the books for the calendar year.
At the top of the heap exists DWP's juggernaut in Aftershock. The festival has been a sell out event in the last five consecutive years prior to the pandemic and going into 2020, the festival really ratcheted up their profile by confirming Metallica for a two night engagement - performing a unique set each night. In addition to Metallica, Aftershock also touted the grand scale reunion of My Chemical Romance.
Though the pandemic forced the event to postpone to 2021, not only did DWP reconfirm the event's headliners, they added to the scope of the event by tacking on another day and enlisting the likes of Limp Bizkit, Parkway Drive, Testament, Hatebreed, Exodus, Knocked Loose, and Fit For A King in what looks to be a hell of a kick off.
As for the 2021 forecast of events in motion, Louder Than Life, is confirmed for September 23-26, 2021 at Highland Festival Grounds at KY Expo Center in Louisville, Kentucky. Like Aftershock, Louder Than Life will add a Thursday night celebration event to kick off the festivities. All current pass holders will receive admission to the newly added Thursday night kickoff celebration for free.
Welcome To Rockville will also evolve into a 4-day weekend that in Florida, moving to late 2021 - November 11-14. and new digs in Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. in light of the necessary rescheduling from May to November, current will have the opportunity to request a refund or apply their existing passes in November. Fans that opt to keep their passes will receive complimentary access to the newly added 4th day.
Lastly, Danny Wimmer Presents has teamed with the creators of Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival to transform the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio (the “Shawshank State Prison” from The Shawshank Redemption) into a rock music haven for thousands of fans eager to celebrate counter culture and the marriage of music and art.
With the brand's shifted focus and streamlined itinerary, some the annual events synonymous with DWP will be on pause for 2021 including fans favorites like Epicenter (Charlotte, NC) and Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival (Columbus, OH).
“Taking our festivals down last year was one of the most painful experiences our company has ever lived through,” shares Danny Wimmer, Founder of Danny Wimmer Presents. “And it wasn’t just painful for us, it was hard on the bands, fans, partners, cities and vendors. It has become clear to us that we will not be able to have our festivals this spring, and for a variety of reasons, it is not possible to produce all of our annual festivals in the window of Fall 2021, so we made the difficult decision to only produce Aftershock, Welcome To Rockville and Louder Than Life this year.
These are our longest running and most geographically diverse festivals. Focusing on these three events, along with Inkcarceration Festival at the end of July gives as many fans as possible, from all over the country, the chance to rock again.”
While the line up for Aftershock is complete, the remaining festivals will be making announcements in the coming months with regards to performances and ticket information.
