First Look: CBS releases teaser for Stephen King's 'The Stand'

The Josh Boone helmed adaptation will feature 9-episodes and includes a new ending penned by King himself.

CBS has released the very first look at the upcoming television adaptation of Stephen King's classic, The Stand.

Set for a December 17th premiere, the first look provides an overview of a post-plague world that is navigated by just a few survivors attempting to preserve mankind.

Randall Flagg, the Dark Man, is the embodiment of evil and threatens to thwart any attempt to restore any good in the world. Abigail Freemantle is the leader of the good survivors, functions as the series protagonist.

The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård (Randall Flagg), Whoopi Goldberg (Mother Abagail), Jovan Adepo, Owen Teague, Greg Kinnear, Brad William Henke, Nat Wolff, Daniel Sunjata, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Eion Bailey, Katherine McNamara, Heather Graham, Marilyn Manson (Yes, that Marilyn Manson), Hamish Linklater and Henry Zaga.

The 9-part episodic series will see a weekly release starting December 17th. What makes the series particularly interesting is that King himself actually penned a new ending for this series, apart from his classic novel that inspired the show.
