Game of Thrones Prequel 'House of the Dragon' Gets First Teaser Trailer

George R.R. Martin and the co-creator of the TV series Colony team up for the first spinoff to the massive HBO series

Game of Thrones took the world by storm during its 8 year run on HBO, so much so that the series became a part of pop culture and episodes were viewed as events. It should come as no surprise that the phenomenon would launch a franchise all its own and House of the Dragon is the first official one to get the ball rolling again after what many fans felt was a disappointing final season of the original show.

Based on George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood, the prequel series will be set centuries before the events of Game of Thrones. From Ryan J. Condal (Colony, Rampage), it tells the story of the beginning of the end of House Targaryen and the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war.

HBO released the first teaser trailer earlier this week, and while there are no dragons to be seen quite yet, what footage is shown is a welcome return to the world and a look at some of the new and talented cast. That cast includes Paddy Considine, Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and more.

Gods. Kings. Fire. Blood. Take a look at the teaser and get hyped for the ten-episode first season coming sometime next year.

'House of the Dragon' will release exclusively on HBO Max in 2022.
