What started back in 2014 with an original hardened story of a serial killer seeking vengeance for the death of his dog in the most badass of ways has now expanded into a five film series (with a potential spin-off movie and prequel TV series).
Today, Deadline reported Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer announced the fifth film in the series on an earnings call, “We hope to shoot both John Wick 4 & 5 back to back when Keanu (Reeves) becomes available early next year.”
Reeves, the always busy man, still has 'Bill & Ted Face the Music' hitting on-demand streaming services later this month, an appearance in 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge On The Run' (currently in COVID-limbo), starring in one of the most anticipated games of the year in 'Cyberpunk 2077' and filming the next film in the Matrix series.
Besides the upcoming John Wick 4 & 5 as direct sequels, there are two other projects in the works inside the John Wick universe.
'Ballerina' an upcoming film that according to a Hollywood Reporter article, "center(s) on a young woman raised as an assassin who must hunt down the other assassins that murdered her family."
As well as the prequel TV series, 'The Continental' on Starz that will focus on the infamous highly regulated hotel. Starz shared some early info on the show with Indiewire...
“(Writer Chris) Collins expands the universe in the series by focusing on the Continental Hotel and those who find refuge under its roof. Set in a hyper-real version of Los Angeles, the series maintains the urgency of the action along with the dry humor from the John Wick movies.”
That dude REALLY should not have shot his dog.
