Written by Noah Dixon and directed by him and creative partner Ori Seveg, Poser made its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and was met with an ecstatic reception. The film mixes the excitement and intrigue of thrillers with comedy, drama, and of course music to craft something wholly original. Ahead of its wider theatrical release this June, Oscilloscope Laboratories have dropped a poster and a trailer for the film.
Lennon (Sylvie Mix) exists timidly on the sidelines of the thriving Columbus, Ohio indie music scene, yearning for a personal connection that might shepherd her into the inner sanctum of warehouse concerts, exclusive backstage, house parties and the cutting-edge art scene. As she fuels her desire for entrée into a podcast featuring live music and conversations with the artists she so fervently admires, Lennon finds inspiration for her own musical ambitions…and a growing sense of misdirected identity. Enter Bobbi Kitten, an enigmatic, striking and talented half of a popular, indie pop duo, who takes Lennon under her confident wing—unwittingly entangling herself in a dark obsession.
Critic Liza Domnitz described the film as "a contemporary thriller against the backdrop of a burgeoning, real-life music scene. Quietly leading the way is newcomer Sylvie Mix, whose quiet, observant performance deceptively masks Lennon’s growing fixation with Bobbi Kitten, played by the Columbus musician and performer of the same name. Absolutely brimming with style, atmosphere and a healthy dose of dryly, laugh out loud humor, Poser is an altogether watchable and exciting debut."
With the film acting as a sort of celebration of Columbus’ underground music scene, the film has plans to honor that community with Poserfest, a June 10th concert featuring local Columbus artists performing on multiple stages the week before the film hits theaters in New York and Los Angeles.
'Poser' will open in Columbus June 3rd and in New York and Los Angeles June 17th followed by a national rollout. Grab tickets to Poserfest HERE
