Shudder's psychological thriller 'A Nightmare Wakes' offers a haunting look at Mary Shelley's creation of Frankenstein

The streaming specialists have acquired the Nora Unkel film that explores Mary Shelley's descent into addiction and her struggles with maintaining her sanity while creating one of the most enduring literal characters of all time.

Horror, sci-fi, and thriller streaming autorità Shudder has announced their recent acquisition of the Nora Unkel film, A Nightmare Wakes.

Set to premiere on February 4th, the streaming the of the film lines up with the 170th anniversary of the passing off the literary legend on February 1, 1851.

The film documents Shelley's continued creative evolution as she writes the her masterpiece in Frankenstein. The film offers an accurate portrayal of her descent into an opium addiction and her passionate love affair with Percy Shelley. The story showcases Shelley's immersion in drafting her opus and how her creative obsession began to hinder her love life, her substance abuse, and her sanity.

“With her Creature and Creator, Mary Shelley created science fiction as an entire genre and transfixed 1800s Europe in ways never thought possible,” said Nora Unkel. “Shelley’s struggle with love, loss, abandonment by society and family, and her own sanity, had yet to be captured fully on-screen. She lived a colorful life of love, drugs, and freedom alongside some of the most celebrated artists of her day.”
