Disney has been ushering in a new age of Star Wars content since the launch of their personal streaming service, Disney+. With The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the House of Mouse has been incorporating elements from the original trilogy as well as the animated series to create a new but familiar intricate tapestry of characters and planets for the galaxy far, far away.
While those two series kept a focus on the time period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the latest Disney+ show will take things back a couple of decades to the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It'll also be bringing back one particularly welcome face among fans: None other than Ewan McGregor himself will be returning to Star Wars to both star in and executive produce the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
The very first images and teaser trailer have been released, giving us plenty of the rugged and weary Jedi Master as he hides out on the desert planet of Tatooine to keep an eye on a young Luke Skywalker. "The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat—the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as evil Sith Lord Darth Vader. "
The series also marks the return of Hayden Christensen in the role of Darth Vader, with a possible reunion having been talked about the series' showrunners. Deborah Chow directed all six episodes with Joby Harold having written all six. Joining the cast are Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton & Bonnie Piesse (reprising their roles as Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru), Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
Check out the trailer below, where we get a look at the sinister Imperial Inquisitors on the hunt for surviving Jedi and the true hero of the saga attempting to keep a low profile.
'Obi-Wan Kenobi' premieres May 25th exclusively on Disney+.
