Co-written with music writer Mick Wall, the autobiography was a project that Dio began writing prior t his passing in 2010.

The comprehensive autobiography of metal icon Ronnie James Dio now has an official release date and the world has its first glimpse of the cover.

'Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography,' will make it's long-awaited reveal on July 27 via Permuted Press. The book was a passion project that Dio began penning prior to his passing in 2010. After his tragic death from cancer, Dio's lifelong friend of 30 years in revered music journalist Mick Wall assumed the role of author to complete the metal pillar's story.

Beginning and ending at New York's famed Madison Square Garden, the book traverses the toil and triumph of one of metal's most enduring figures. From his humble, upstate New York beginnings, to the formation of Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore, to his tenure with Black Sabbath, to his emphatic arrival as an inimitable force in Dio, the story is essential for even the casual metal fan.

The story takes a candid look at the excess of the era, the conflict that hindered his relationship with Ritchie Blackmore, the drugs that undermined the resurgence of Black Sabbath, the creation of the devilhorns, and his enduring marriage to his wife and friend, Wendy.
