There's still so much that's yet to be known about A24's upcoming horror flick, simply titled Men. The film comes from writer and director Alex Garland, who has made a name for himself by shaking up the sci-fi drama with Ex Machina and Annihilation. Garland has switched gears and set his sights on the realm of horror this time around, but for those familiar with his previous two films (or his writing credits, which include 28 Days Later), the filmmaker has always had a knack for delivering on thrills and chills.
The film's teaser was released back at the start of February and was filled with dread, disembodied screams, and a protagonist who may or may not be seeing things. A24 has just dropped the full trailer and it certainly ratchets things up a notch while introducing a few key characters.
In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland’s feverish, shape-shifting new horror film.
Indeed, this unsettling trailer quickly goes from calm and welcoming to bizarre and nightmarish. It's still not clear just who or what is after Harper, or what they even want from her, but it seems obvious that the area's various men (seemingly all played by Rory Kinnear is what will likely be the performance of a lifetime) are all harboring the same spooky secrets. The film also stars Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) and Gayle Rankin (GLOW). Check out the trailer below.
'Men' stalks its way into theaters May 20th.
