Earlier this year, Ti West unleashed what very quickly became one of the best horror movies of the recent years: X. A deliciously violent, steamy, scary and hilarious tale of a group of young filmmakers on a mission to create the greatest porno ever seen. Things do not go according to plan. Set in 1979 on the cusp of the home video boom, X is one of those movies you finish in either utter disbelief, bewildered delight or pure repulsion.
Mia Goth starred in the film as both young star Maxine as well as the murderous old woman named Pearl. It's an astonishing dual performance and West seems to agree. Coming out this very same year will be a prequel focused on the life of a young Pearl and how she became who she was. Goth will be reprising the role in a new context.
Filmmaker Ti West returns with another chapter from the twisted world of X, in this astonishing follow-up to the year’s most acclaimed horror film. Trapped on her family’s isolated farm, Pearl must tend to her ailing father under the bitter and overbearing watch of her devout mother. Lusting for a glamorous life like she’s seen in the movies, Pearl’s ambitions, temptations, and repressions all collide, in the stunning, technicolor-inspired origin story of X’s iconic villain.
A24 has released the official poster as well as the trailer for the upcoming film, which you can check out below.
'Pearl' is in theaters September 16th 2022.
