For the first time since 2019, the gates at Clisson, FR opened and welcomed a massive, two-weekends worth of performances spanning multiple stages and showcasing more than 350 artists in what has become arguably the biggest, most comprehensive heavy music gathering on the globe.
While the first weekend of the festival included eagerly-anticipated sets from Deftones, Megadeth, Ghost, Gojira, Korn, Judas Priest, Mastodon, Opeth, Five Finger Death Punch, Jinjer, Down weekend two did well in exceeding the bar set by round one. With headlining sets from Nine Inch Nails, Scorpions, Guns N Roses and Metallica, thrilled fans that have been holding onto their tickets for literally, years experienced what was undoubtedly a show for the history books.
Teaming with ARTE Concerts, Hellfest offered fans across the world a chance to experience the energy on the grounds by streaming a selection of performances from the fest's colossal second weekend. The pro-shot footage of full sets featured thrash legends Megadeth - celebrating the recent announcement of their 16th full length album, The Sick, The Dying... and The Dead! Industrial stalwarts Nitzer Ebb were also captured on film, as well as punk veterans Discharge, Social Distortion, and GBH.
Also included in the collection of concert footage, heavy psyche progressives Opeth delivered a powerful showing, while sheer horsepower on display as Orange Goblin brought the shred. Knotfest Finland co-headliners Nightwish proved towering while bands like THOU, Suicide Silence and Avatar displayed the full range of heavy that has become synonymous with Hellfest.
With anticipation already mounting with the arrival of the 2023 line-up for the ceremony at Clisson, here is a look back at 2022 with some of the standout performances captured on camera.
