BREACH Flexes Metallic Hardcore Brawn With Dominant Debut, "PARASITE"

The passion project from members of Comeback Kid and Misery Signals usher in a new era of modern heft with the worldwide premiere of their introductory track.

Consisting of members of establlshed Canadian aggressors in Comeback Kid and Misery SIgnals, BREACH is the passion project spearheaded by drummer Terrance Pettitt and guitarist Cole Hardy.

First conceptualized in 2024, the tandem struck a creative kinship with the shared intent of getting back their artistic roots - making heavy music and reconnecting with the kind of inspiration that first steered their musical discovery. Thriving in the same orbit as veteran musicians individually, the two would eventually connect with bassist Kyle Marchant to further round out their ensemble.

As the foundation of BREACH began to cement, added reinforcement in the form of vocalist Luke Snider and Comeback Kid guitarist Stuart Ross also met the challenge - committing to the same pursuit of sonic pummel that compelled the rest of the collective.

Thus, BREACH was born.

Sourcing a myriad of heavy music influence and a proven pedigree spanning hardcore, industrial, punk and metalcore, the collective forged ahead and found an ally in Greyscale Records. Aligned with the band's vision and conviction, the union between the band and banner added another element of fate that proved formative for BREACH.

"With a roster full of heavy artists that we all love and respect, and a glowing recommendation from people we trust, it felt like exactly the relationship we wanted with a label," the band explained.

Armed with the resounding introduction in "PARASITE," BREACH begins the first offensive towards making their lasting impact on contemporary heavy music. Dark, devastating and dominant, the track presents an amalgam of styles that pools sonic power with the band's extensive experience and songwriting expertise.

Elaborating on the fruition of the project and the kind of promise evident from the get go, Terrance Pettitt explained how BREACH went from concept to execution and how their debut track offers a strong indication of what's to come from the pending EP via Greyscale.

BREACH brings together members with deep roots in the alternative and hardcore world, including Misery Signals and Comeback Kid. What’s the story behind BREACH, and what brought you all together for this new project?

Terrance Pettitt - This project started with us (Cole and Terrance) just wanting to write some ridiculously heavy music. Nothing really fancy or crazy, just simple, heavy, hard hitting music we can bang our head to. It’s a fun project that’s grown into something we’re incredibly excited about, especially getting to do it alongside musicians and friends we genuinely love and respect. The best thing about creating music is that there’s so many ways to express creativity and so many paths that we’ve had the privilege to explore. Pulling inspiration from our favorite bands and artists, this is one path we feel comes most natural to us. It’s truly been an enjoyable experience from start to finish.

You’ve signed with Greyscale Records for this release. What was it about the label that made it feel like the right home for BREACH?

TP - Greyscale was first brought to my (Terrance) attention in 2023 while filling in for one of their artists, Justice For The Damned, who turned into some of my closest friends. They had nothing but good things to say about Greyscale, and how supportive they were. While in Australia with Comeback Kid, I had lunch with Josh and we really hit it off. More than just wanting to sign the band and put out the music, he genuinely seemed to care about developing a personal relationship with the band, and his teammates at the label shared that same energy. We were looking for a label that wanted to be involved in our journey and Greyscale was ready to run with us.

Having spent years creating music in other bands, what feels different about BREACH? Where are you drawing inspiration from this time around, and were there any sounds or ideas you were particularly keen to explore?

TP - All of us share a very similar taste in music, which made the flow of writing for this project very cathartic. Having no expectations or confinements, we went into the writing process with the intention of just having fun with it. This project gave us the freedom to try things we’ve never attempted, especially within production, and to just write what felt natural to us - resulting in some very satisfying ear candy.

“PARASITE” is our first taste of BREACH’s newly announced self-titled EP. How representative is the track of what’s to come, and what can listeners expect to discover across the rest of the record?

TP - “PARASITE” is a great representation of what this EP has to offer - an explosive, aggressive, and memorable sound that we hope listeners will want to repeat. Lyrically, each song touches on topics that hit close to home for us and our loved ones. Our writing process has been incredibly therapeutic and we hope listeners will resonate with the messages to understand that none of us are alone through our trials and tribulations. That being said, we definitely have a few surprises in the other songs to come we’re very excited to share.

Will we get to see BREACH onstage? What are the plans for bringing this project to life live?

TP - We want this project to feel like.. picture this: A thin layer of fog comes in around our ankles (Roadies that means dry ice, we’re gunna talk about this later). Chimes, Freddy. And then Katie you come in with the bass. And then Zack you come in with a face melter. And then, Hawaii five-0 you ever see that show? Okay well there’s a drum solo in it… And then, that's where I want the backup singers to be, like... “no you’re not hardcore, unless you live hardcore” Boom! Big ol' explosion. Some, like, confetti comes down. Anyway, that's all I got so far. It's a work in progress.

But in all seriousness we definitely plan to play these songs live as soon as possible. To write BREACH and not have a crowd to play it to just feels criminal.
