Veteran California collective Thrown Into Exile has begun their next campaign with the announcement of their new Passageways EP. The release is set to land November 15th and showcases the potent, powerful pummel of proven players in guitarists Mario Rubio and Austin Monzon, bassist Javi Quinto, drummer Tom Tierney - in addition to the vocal command of Evan Seidlitz.
Commencing the next era of Thrown Into Exile, the band have kicked off the run-up to the November release with an emphatic preview - sharing the first single from the project. Asserting the band's wall of sound, "Desolation" offers evidence of Thrown Into Exile's grasp of the classic, combined with their ability to be contemporary.
The track debuted earlier this week via The Chaos Hour, hosted by Trivium architect Matthew K. Heafy via Sirius XM's Liquid Metal. A clinic of big dynamics, powerful riffage and convincing performances across the board, Thrown Into Exile are out to put the greater culture of metal on notice.
Speaking to the conviction that is core to the track, vocalists Evan Seldlitz shared, "'Desolation' is about the feeling you get inside when you unexpectedly lose someone close," the frontman explained. "It's about feeling mentally desolate, empty, isolated, angry, and alone."
Echoing the sentiment of the thematic weight of the release, guitarist Mario Rubio added how the single is indicative of the tone of the forthcoming EP. "The Passageways EP is heavy in more ways than musically. It deals with grief, loss, and the process that comes with it. At first, we wanted to do standalone singles, but these songs capture a certain state of mind as a band, so we decided to release it as a five-track EP."
