Viking metal vanguards Amon Amarth have delivered their first offering of new music since the band's monumental 2022 LP, The Great Heathen Army. Following an online campaign rolling out the start of the band's next era, "We Rule the Waves" is a commanding presentation of death metal intensity, Norse mythology and seriously infectious songwriting.
Along with the arrival of the latest single, Amon Amarth have also shared another cinematic entry into their cannon of music videos. Working again with director Pavel Trebukhin who also helmed visuals for "The Great Heathen Army," "Heidrun," and "Saxons & Vikings, "We Rule the Waves," delves into Viking lore, framing the significance of Viking ships as more than a mode of transport, but rather, a caravan of domination.
With scenes of Vikings hoisting horns filled with mead and rowing in unison on the seas, Johan Hegg declares triumphantly, " We are Vikings / And we will never be slaves / Until the stars fall from the sky / We rule the waves."
The band shared, "'We Rule The Waves' is our tribute to the spirit of freedom, brotherhood, and the will to conquer - not just lands, but your own limitations. It's about standing tall with your clan, facing the storm head-on, and carving your mark into the world like a Viking longship through blackened seas."
The latest single from Amon Amarth not only marks the first delivery of new music in three years, but also coincides with the start of one of the most anticipated tours of the season. Teaming with Texas groove metal pillars Pantera, the appropriately dubbed 'Heaviest Tour of the Summer' kicked off this week with a show in Burgettstown, PA.
The Heaviest Tour of the Summer will cross the country touching down in key arenas and amphitheaters with stops at Xfinity Center in Massachusetts, the Target Center in Minneapolis, The Kia Forum in Los Angeles and a play at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas among many others.
