Completing their historic run as melodic death metal forerunners, At the Gates issued a profound testament to departed frontman Tomas Lindberg with the release of his final recordings with the band in The Ghost of A Future Dead.
Launched earlier this spring, the album was completed as Lindberg confronted his own mortality while enduring treatment for adenoid cystic carcinoma. He would tragically pass one year ago, leavign a lasting legacy underscored by his resilient performance on The Ghost Of A Future Dead.
As part of the overall presentation in The Ghost Of A Future Dead, At the Gates enlisted longtime collaborator and championed artist, Costin Chioreanu, to create the visual component of the pivotal release. Issuing animated paintings turned into videos for the songs "The Dissonant Void" and "In Dark Distortion," the presentation has now been revealed in full as a animated companion film illuminating the thematic weight of the historic album.
Chioreanu explained of his work on the project, "This is by far the most intense project I've done, not only due the circumstances but also because the album is so intense and it requires an insane rhythm for the whole dynamic. It is also the first time that I am doing a full album art video and, honestly, I think it will remain singular of this kind in my career, as I've been over several of my limits with this one. But I am so happy that I could finish this monument for my friend Tomas and for his magical band, who will remain with my heart and my memory till the end of my time here and beyond."
Additionally, At The Gates will be honored by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra for the special event, "The Gothenburg Sound", where the band's definitive catalog will be recreated with a symphony along with selections from In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. The performances will take place at the Gothenburg Concert Hall on December 3rd, 4th and 5th.
