Earlier this summer, progressive metal stalwarts Between the Buried announced their InsideOut Music full length debut, The Blue Nowhere. The announcement of the new album and the first on a new label marks the first presentation of music since the band's hailed 2021 entry, Colors II, and further establishes the band has one of heavy music's most technically-skilled, creatively ambitious units.
Working with longtime collaborator and producer Jamie King, The Blue NoWhere showcases the inclusion of an extensive string and horn section - a bold first for collective. The Blue Nowhere also finds the band expanding their thematic cannon, moving from the concept album model to something much more personal and reflective.
Vocalist Tommy Rogers explains how the latest ten-track presentation, “...exists in a world that’s not tied to a storyline. It’s more about a feeling, where the songs live for me.” Rogers goes onto the frame the scope of the album as, “journal entries, fleeting and introspective thoughts – chaotic at times, depending on the music.”
Building off the momentum of the intial unveiling of the genre-melding, cinematically-executed "Things We Tell Ourselves In the Dark," Between the Buried and Me have shared their latest single with the sonically intense, “Absent Thereafter”.
Sharing his insight on the single, Tommy Rogers explained, “To me, ‘Absent Thereafter’ feels like the quintessential BTBAM song – fun, intense, spacy, and still fucking heavy. I like to think it takes the listener on an unexpected journey, with ear candy waiting around every corner. It’s a deeper dive into all of the dynamic places you’re taken within The Blue Nowhere!”
Dan Biggs also shared his take on the song. “This song moves arrangement-wise in two parts divided by a key change and tonal shift of the chorus, but is ultimately the big fun time bombastic energy of a Van Halen shuffle with Huey Lewis and the News horns going through variations that are sometimes heavily syncopated, sometimes lost in space, and sometimes inspiring you to break out into a do-si-do. Grab your washboard and let’s go!”
BTBAM have announced plans to hit the road in support of the new record with an extensive North American tour. Teaming up with Hail the Sun for the fall co-headliner, BTBAM will begin the tour September 14th in Philadelphia, PA., just two days after the arrival of The Blue Nowhere.
In addition to sharing the stage with Hail the Sun, BTBAM have enlisted a pair of commanding special guests to join the caravan. The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die take on the first portion of dates with Delta Sleep taking on the remaining stretch. See dates and cities below. Get tickets - HERE
