Big Newport Studios along with industry authority Z2 Comics have announced the launch of the graphic novel companion to the upcoming Rancid-inspired film based on the band seminal debut punk album, ...And Out Come the Wolves'.
Working in close collaboration writer/director/producer Danny Peykoff and the Neese Brothers who will begin screening their feature film, And Out Comes the Wolf, at festivals this spring ahead of an anticipated summer release, both the studio and comic craftsmen have confirmed the official launch of the film's companion graphic novel universe which brings into frame the volatile and formative punk scene of California's East Bay during the 1990's.
Entrusting the written and illustrated translation to artist and writer Kevin Mellon, And Out Comes the Wolf takes its creative cues from the film script of Peykoff and the Neese Brothers, with the added style points of cover art from luminary and championed underground artist, Travis Knight. Danny Peykoff shared of the news, “Our film has always felt tailor-made for a graphic novel adaptation, so we were stoked at the chance to stretch our collective vision with Josh and the team at Z2.”
The film's co-creator Jason Neese also expressed his enthusiasm of the project. “I’m so excited to see the boundaries of this universe we created together expand into a whole other arena with our partnership with Z2 to bring …And Out Comes the Wolf alive in a new way.” Jamie Neese also weighed in on the announcement. “Growing up comics were my entry point into my eventual obsession with cinema. So to now have the opportunity to watch Z2 take our film and metamorphose it into a graphic novel is beyond exciting.”
Z2 Comics president Josh Bernstein relayed his confidence in the collaborative project.
