Hailed for his succession of self-titled studio albums, Blackbraid has ushered in a new era of extreme music mastery since his eponymous debut in 2022. Earning universal acclaim with Blackbraid I and the 2023 follow-up in Blackbraid II, fans have since been waiting with anticipation for the next chapter from the enigmatic black metal mystic.
Confirming the August 8th arrival date of the third installment in the Blackbraid saga, Sgah'gahsowáh further asserts his prowess with a ten-track presentation that is already among the most exciting entries on the year.
Project mastermind Sgah'gahsowáh worked in collaboration with Adam Burke to complete the cover art painting with longtime Blackbraid album artist Adrian Baxter handling the illustration. Portioning out the reveal of the project first by Issuing the artwork and the tracklisting, then with the announcement the band's biggest headlining tour to date, Blackbraid has again ramped up the anticipation for the August release with the reveal of the album's first single.
"Wardrums at Dawn on the Day of my Death" marks the very first offering of music from the third full length and asserts the black metal gravitas that honors the classic while pursuing something contemporary. Paired with a swiftly edited music video that frames the raw power and ritual of Blackbraid live, Sgah'gahsowáh's command and overarching vision comes to live in a clip helmed by Moshmallows.
Adding to the excitement swirling around the release, Blackbraid has marked another important first with the confirmation of his forthcoming headlining North American tour in support of Blackbraid III. Along with Lamp of Murmuur and Dödsrit, and Gudsforladt taking on select dates, the trek will begin September 18th in San Diego, CA. and close out with a finale in Los Angeles, CA on October 11th.
Leading up to the release of the album as well as the pending tour, Blackbraid will be an integral part of this year's Fire In the Mountains extreme music retreat on the Blackfeet Nation Reserve in Montana. The event takes place July 25th through the 27th and features specially curated performances from Wardruna, Old Man's Child, Chelsea Wolfe, Converge, Blood Incantation.
