Helmed by multi-talent Jordan Old of 2 Minutes To Late Night, his latest iteration comes in the stylized, metallic noir of Blood Vulture. The project was recently signed to Pure Noise Records and now has confirmed the arrival of the project's debut full length, Die Close.
Filed as gothic sludge, the amalgam of well-constructed, dynamic songs anchored by sturdy riffage and a sinister subtext make for a mysterious, mystifying musical ride that is as brooding as it is brutal. Offering a haunting example of that potent combination, Blood Vulture has previewed the totality of Die Close with the first single, "A Dream About Starving to Death".
Old spoke about the narrative that inspired the metallic macabre and twisted existential dread of the single. "’A Dream About Starving To Death' is a song I wrote about a vampire who realizes he is about to watch the world end. He has lived past the extinction of humanity and lost count of how many days he has been hungry, and he realizes that soon there won't be an earth anymore. He's not sure whether it will explode or just rot and crumble, and he's curious about whether he’ll disintegrate or just float forever in space."
Asserting his unique wherewithal as a creative, Old also took on the tall task of bringing his vision for the project to life with the first visual. He spoke about the source material he referenced as a starting point for "A Dream About Starving to Death".
The music video was inspired by the "Freddy coming through the wall" scene from "A Nightmare On Elms Street.” I then built it around a sleep paralysis narrative and had a lot of fun creating a Gullermo Del Toro style Hat Man and a goopy void reminiscent of Aliens and the symbiote from Spiderman alongside one of my main visual collaborators for this project, Kelly Harris. She also built and designed "Montague" the puppet from the "Blood Vault" segment at the beginning of the video. She's a genius."
Die Close, the debut album from Blood Vulture is due out June 27th via Pure Noise Records and will feature a host of diverse guest contributions. Among the names featured on the album include Kristin Hayter, known best as Lingua Ignota, as well as Jade Puget of AFI and Brian Fair of Shadows Fall. Order the album - HERE
