Ascending international collective Calva Louise has begun their next chapter with the news that the band has inked a deal as the latest acquisition to the Mascot Records roster.
Mounting a groundswell of momentum from the band's universally acclaimed 2023 full length, Over the Threshold, the band has positioned themselves as one heavy music's most promising prospects earning the cosign of the BBC Radio 1's Alyx Holcombe who declared Calva Louise one of the "Artists You Need to Know in 2024."
With an upcoming itinerary that includes confirmed appearances at major festivals including Download, 2000Trees, and Primordial General Mayhem, the band's trajectory continues to find a steeper incline. In addition to the band's festival slate, Calva Louise is due to kick off a brief North American jaunt opposite Vukovi next month. Interspersed with festival plays including Welcome to Roockville, Sonic Temple and So What?! to close out the run, Calva Louise will also touch down in key markets for the tandem tour with Vukovi.
Offering a strong indication of what fans can expect, Calva Louise has marked their new signing with the release of arguably their most ambitious effort to date with "Under the Skin". A fluid meld of anthemic range and aggressive punch, the track showcases the band's powerful grasp of songwriting, with memorable showings from Alizon Taho, Ben Parker and frontwoman Jess Allanic.
Complimenting the expansive quality of the track, Calva Louise have debuted an epic, cinematic sci-fi short film that underscores the narrative that drives the band's latest banger. The introduction to the bigger conceptual scope of the band's next phase introduces the relationship between "Travellers" and their fellow "Doubles" - as the two navigate a power struggle and altered reality between the physical world and beyond.
Further elaborating on the single, Jess Allanic shared, "The lyrics deal with the obstacles that arise in the human duality as one is looking for freedom and the other is looking to perpetuate their consciousness, but the expectations are not the same for both sides."
Asserting her prowess as a multi-talent, Allanic, while delivering a standout performance on the track also directed, edited and provided the VFX to complete the finished product in "Under the Skin".
As for the band's next phase via Mascot Records, the possibilities for Calva Louise as seemingly as limitless as their potential. Sharing their enthusiasm for what's to come, the band stated their excitement in finding an ally in Mascot, "We are honored to be part of the Mascot family, and with their help, we hope to keep developing a high level of immeasurable value for the distribution and promotion of our music around the world through a unique sound for our next album and for our live shows."
