Details have now been published involving the arrest of Cancer Christ frontman, Anthony Mehlhaff. On Wednesday August 21st, the 40-year old punk musician was taken into custody after waging what is being labeled nothing short of a crime spree in the area surrounding Yosemite National Park.
According to the report submitted by The Los Angeles Times, Mehlhaff led park rangers on a pursuit after he allegedly assaulted a restaurant employee. Among the most serious of his slew of charges stems from the theft of a car, an attempted kidnapping of a restaurant manager and alleged subsequent assault of deputies as he was being assessed at a local hospital following the series of events.
Per Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese, Mehlhaff touched the stomach of a pregnant waitress and said, “The spirits led me to you and your baby belongs to me.” He allegedly doubled down on the unnerving comment and asked when she was going on a break so he could “be waiting” for her. At the same restaurant, Mehlhaff allegedly stole several drinks and assaulted an employee before fleeing the scene and law enforcement.
During the ensuing pursuit, Mehlhaff is said to have stolen a couple of cars after crashing initially. He also stole a bicycle, brandished a knife towards employees at a nearby lodge and attempted to kidnap a store manager - all before stealing said manager's car. When authorities finally apprehended Mehlhaff, he had stripped down to his underwear.
Later at a local hospital as Mehlhaff was being assessed by medical professionals. he allegedly then tried to assault the apprehending deputies. Among the charges Mehlhaff is facing include vandalism, vehicle theft, reckless driving, kidnapping, theft, first-degree burglary, robbery, obstructing an officer and battery. He is currently being held on $100,000.00 bail.
