OKC collective Chat Pile had one of the most outstanding records in the way of heavy music in 2022 with the debut of God's Country. A combination of thematic bite and serrated musical tear, the album was universally praised and landed the band on the greater radar of heavy music, well outside of the noise rock niche most labeled the release as.
Following a healthy run of touring on their previous cycle, Chat Pile are now turning the page with the news of their sophomore full length, Cool World. The album is set for an October 11th release via The Flenser. The album marks an important first for the band - enlisting Ben Greenberg of Uniform, Cool World is the first effort from Chat Pile that features a final mix from someone outside of the band.
As for the weight of the album, Cool World builds off the dejection and despair of God's Country, only this time widening the scope to shift the focus from the band's immediate environment to their vantage point of the world we all live in.
“'Cool World' covers similar themes to our last album, except now exploded from a micro to macro scale, with thoughts specifically about disasters abroad, at home, and how they affect one another,” explained vocalist Raygun Busch. “If I had to describe the album in one sentence,” Busch continues, “It’s hard not to borrow from Voltaire, so I won’t resist – 'Cool World' is about the price at which we eat sugar in America.”
To begin the band's next campaign official, Chat Pile has released the first offering from Cool World with the reveal of the music video for "I Am Dog Now". Entrusting director Will Mecca, the clip is a eerie, VHS-era headtrip complete with intense gospel sermons in a desolate, dust bowl church. Chat Pile bassists Stin said of the video, "Will's vision captures the essence of 'I Am Dog Now' by channeling his specific style of low-fi, exploitation cinema aesthetic into a dusty, religious bad-trip exclusive to the southern plains of America. Eagle eyed viewers may actually notice shots of the literal chat piles from which we take our name."
Paired with the fall release of Cool World, Chat Pile will head out for a run of live dates with label mates Agriculture and Mamaleek in select cities. A current list of dates and markets can be found below.
