Indiana shoegaze specialists Cloakroom have announced they have signed to heavy music authority Closed Casket Activities. Along with the news of the label change, the band has delivered their first showing of new music with the reveal of "Unbelonging" - marking the first offering of new material since the band's acclaimed 2022 full length, Dissolution Wave.
On "Unbelonging", Cloakroom showcase their expansive sound coupled with post-punk era guitars on a track that somehow feels hopeful and harrowing all in the same fell swoop. The band shared of the single, “It’s a pop song wielding 140 bpm of optimism that can fall apart and dishearten just as quickly as it captivates – Cloakroom meets Psychedelic Furs.”
Along with the single and the announcement of the new digs at Closed Casket, Cloakroom have unveiled a new clip for "Unbelonging" which features footage from the band's most recent European tour. The band explained the method to the madness and shared how the video offers some added insight to the creation and direction of the pending new album.
"Similar to a Crowelian ceremonial dagger, all the lyrics to the new record were crafted under the cover of darkness, predominantly in a moving vehicle; predominantly leaving any number of border town bars. That’s why we chose to do a ‘found footage’ kind of delivery method for the video.”
"Unbelonging" arrives as Cloakroom prepare to begin a comprehensive North American tour supporting Better Lovers on their Highly Irresponsible tour. Along with Full of Hell, Gouge Away and Spy, the run kicks off November 3rd in North Carolina and closes out December 8th in Lakewood, OH. A full list of dates and cities can be found below.
