Eight years removed from No Cross No Crown, Corrosion of Conformity have battled significant loss to roar back with their first new album in nearly a decade with the news of their massive double album, Good God / Baad Man.
Following the passing of drummer Reed Mullin in 2020 and the amicable split with bassist Mike Dean shortly thereafter, the core of Corrosion in Pepper Keenan (vocals, guitar), Woody Weatherman (guitar) would retreat and revisit the music that have long influenced their sound. From Discharge to ZZ Top, Sabbath to Neil Young, the veteran songwriters reconnected with their foundation and began to write.
“As we went on, we had such a crazy plethora of songs, it was almost like two different directions,” Pepper says. “We knew we had to split it into two different albums. Then we came up with this concept. The end result is Corrosion of Conformity's mammoth double album, Good God / Baad Man.
“Our producer, Warren Riker, kept calling it Dark Side Of The Doom,” recalls Pepper. “In my head, it’s a weird love letter to all things rock ‘n’ roll. We used that for the freedom to go in different directions. Each album is its own tiny universe and has its own identity. Good God leans toward the heavier/pissed end of the spectrum. Baad Man is more on the throwdown rock scope. As we went along, it became clear which songs went on which album.”
Reenlisting drummer Stanton Moore who played previously on CoC's In The Arms Of God, rounded out with bassist Bobby “Rock” Landgraf, the band set out to pay homage to their fallen brother all while showcasing the sound that has cemented their tenure among rock's heavyweights. “With a lot of these songs, we’re trying to make Reed Mullin proud,” Pepper says. “He was a badass, and a one-of-a-kind drummer. And the stakes were high.”
To introduce the new album, Corrosion of Conformity have released a scorching lead single with "Gimme Some More," a punk-influenced heater intended to set the tone for the heft to come. Along with a guest assist from Ministry’s Al Jourgensen and Madonna guitarist Monte Pittman, the single ushers in the modern era of one of the true greats while reconnecting with the band's punk rock roots. Me and Woody wanted to write a song as if we were 17 years old again,” Pepper explains. “We even made a seven-inch for it.”
In support of the new album, Corrosion of Conformity will be heading out on a run of headlining tour dates this Spring across North American headlining with support from Whores and Crobot.
