Cryptopsy Drops Unnerving New Video for "Malicious Needs"

The pummeling track previews the upcoming release of the band's ninth full length album, An Insatiable Violence

Veteran technical death outfit Cryptopsy have unveiled another dominant preview of their forthcoming ninth full length studio album, An Insatiable Violence, which lands next month via Season of Mist.

Following the impact of the album's lead single in the decimating "Until There's Nothing Left," Cryptopsy have unleashed another audio onslaught with the eerily insidious, "Malicious Needs". Backed by the unparalleled talent of Flo Mounier on drums and the brutal bellow of vocalist Matt McGachy, "Malicious Needs" frames the sinister themes of An Insatiable Violence, emphasizing the how our the tether to the timeline can lead to grizzly, gruesome obsessions.

Working with director and visual effects artist Gornoss to bring this horrific reality to life, the music video for the track creates a universe where a nefarious tech CEO leverages social media addicted underlings as part of an overarching sinister plot. The results are intentionally extreme, but very in line with the thematic weight of the album.

Speaking to the greater scope of the record, McGauchy shared how that tech dependance was an idea that came to him in an instant - and the irony of how he had to document it is something that only reaffirmed his thinking. "When I woke up, I grabbed my phone and wrote down the words that would become the title of our new album", explained McGachy. "Because, you know, we all have to have our phones with us all the time".

As for the second preview from the album in "Malicious Needs," the band explain how the album closer offered the perfect punctuation to the presentation overall. "'Malcious Needs' is the last song that we wrote for An Insatiable Violence and right awaywe were all completely enamored with it", Cryptopsy says. "It has a very weird, mechanical, rhythmic ambiance, which was brought to life by the dystopian horror story that you see in the video".
