Connecticut metalcore collective Currents have announced their signing to Rise Records and the pending February 2027 release of their fourth full length album, Our Fates Lie In Tandem. The presentation follows the impact of the band's 2023 LP, The Death We Seek and the 2025 EP, All That Follows, marking a pivotal new chapter for the genre veterans.
The album emphasizes a hands-on approach as Currents guitarist Chris Wiseman also serves as producer on the project. Working in collaboration with Ricky Armellino and a final mix from Jon Dolese (Chelsea Grin, Cane Hill) the collection of tracks frames Currents as the most complete version of themselves to date.
“Putting this record together has been an intense, multi-year process that has challenged our existing framework of songwriting,” the band emphasized. “We took no shortcuts in building these songs up to be the best and most cohesive of our career. While it wasn’t quick or easy to make this album, watching and participating in this project, from demos to the final masters, has been such a satisfying and cathartic experience.”
Given the significance of the release, the new partnership with Rise Records finds the band approaching a crucial point in their career. They discussed how aligning with the label has rejuvenated the band. “The legacy of Rise is unmatched. The impact of their work has been felt by all of us for as long as we’ve loved music. We’re so excited to work with them on this new era of our band.”
Speaking to the themes between the lines of the new album, frontman Brian Wille gave some insight to the intentionality of the project as a whole. “There’s some social commentary and a little bit of heartbreak too. I brought the wall down, so I could be more personal than ever before. Our Fates Lie in Tandem is not heavy for the sake of being heavy either. We agreed a track doesn’t need to be ‘a walking breakdown’ in order to make an impact. So, you’re getting the lows, the highs, and everything in between. There’s a reason for each element and meaning behind every word.”
Beginning the band's newest cycle, "Retributioner" asserts the band's refined take on the genre with a track that shifts from expansive to explosive. Paired with a poignant new visual directed by Errick Easterday and Chris Klumpp, the track marks an auspicious start for the Connecticut stalwarts.
Currents begin an EU/UK co-headlining tour next month with support from Caskets and Aviana. A list of confirmed dates and cities for the monthlong trek can be found below.
