Rock music eccentrics Dance Gavin Dance have announced their next chapter with the confirmation of a brand new album due out September 12th. Following the praise of 2022's Jackpot Juicer, an entry that climbed all the way to #8 on the Billboard Top 200, DGD has announced Pantheon as their first offering of new music in three years.
Aligned with the band's signature of pop-infused aggression, musical unpredictability and explosive studio performance, Pantheon touts a kind of virtuosity that levels up DGD's brand with a controlled chaos that shapes cacophony to symphony. Bolstered by a special guest assist on the album from legendary funk pioneer George Clinton, Dance Gavin Dance continue to keep fans on their toes.
The announcement of Pantheon also marks a pivotal moment for the beloved band. The album will serve as the first to feature newly christened vocalists Andrew Wells, who first made his introduction last year when DGD dropped “Speed Demon” and “Straight From the Heart.”
Drummer Matt Mingues spoke the new beginning for the band. “We’re incredibly ecstatic to share our 11th full-length album, Pantheon, with the world. We poured our hearts and souls into this record—it has all the signature elements our fans have come to expect, along with fresh sounds and new styles that truly spotlight Andrew as our new vocalist. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride that is Pantheon.”
Along with the announcement of the album, Dance Gavin Dance have delivered the lead single from the effort with the headtrip, "Midnight at McGuffy's". Big choruses, on-a-dime tempo shifts and massive finale make for a memorable first go and a promising start to the band's 11th full length cycle.
Speaking on the gravity of the record and the personal nexus to the band, Andrew Wells shared the vision for the record. "The intention of Pantheon was to build a certain tension, without a proper resolution. The world is in chaos right now, so there is a lot of solemn commentary on where we’re all headed, songs about where we find ourselves in life right now, and the classic DGD absurdism for light and relief amongst the darkness of it all."
Wells went on to detail how this album is especially significant to the band on personal level. “I think Pantheon is a testament to perseverance and the gratitude that we feel today,” Wells adds. “Being able to overcome everything that life hits you with, find your people – the people that you trust, people that you love, people that love you – and create art with them, whatever chaos the world has in store for you. It’s about getting through the hardest times, getting back to basics, and making something that you love.”
Along with the news of the pending full length, DGD headlines their Return Of The Robot Tour which launches May 22nd. The tour also includes the Chicago edition of the 4th annual Swanfest, with special guests Glassjaw, Animals As Leaders, The Fall Of Troy, Kurt Travis, and Return Of the Robot running mates The Home Team, Belmont, and Dwellings.
