Director Craig Gillespie looks to follow the acclaim of James Gunn's well-received take on the franchise with heroine Milly Alcock taking the lead in Supergirl. In the first teaser trailer released for the 2026 theatrical blockbuster, fans are immersed in the messy, albeit very human origin story of young Kara Zor-El.
Soundtracked by Blondie's "Call Me," we find the reclusive superhero drinking away her sorrows, hungover, lethargic and clearly wrestling with demons from her past. The teaser also offers some context, pointing to the destruction of the planet Krypton and Zor-El's eventual embrace of her iconic red cape and otherworldly superpowers.
In addition to the reintroduction of Krypto the dog who no doubt stole the show in the Gunn version of Superman, we also get a quick glimpse of Jason Momoa as the cigar-smoking interplanetary bounty hunter - a role that fans have been clamoring over.
The Gillespie take on Supergirl is an authentic adaptation of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the story arc from the celebrated comic book from Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely. The Supergirl chapter of the superhero saga arrives in theaters in June of 2026, one year prior to the James Gunn sequel, Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
The future of the DC universe rebuild looks bright. Check the teaser trailer below.
