Deaf Club Teams with INDECLINE To Assess the Magnitude of 9/11 with "Pain In the Assery"

The music video frames the painstaking detail of sculptor Ethan Salmon's recreation of the decimated New York skyline that forever change the world a generation ago.

On the 24th anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history, noise punk unit Deaf Club have shared an inflammatory new track and accompanying music video for "Pain in the Assery". The joint effort with art collective INDECLINE, the audio/visual project features the meticulously detailed work of sculptor Ethan Salmon who masterfully recreates the magnificent New York skyline along with the iconic Twin Towers.

The video also uses the elaborate scale model of the the New York landscape to reemphasize the destruction and horror that occurred on 9/11 - forever altering the course of history and scarring a generations of people in the wake of unspeakable tragedy and seismic loss.

Given the significance of the subject matter, Deaf Club approached the project with a sincere sense of reverence, even if it meant acknowledging hard truths that would result in the fallout from the unprecedented attack. Offering his assessment of the magnitude of 9/11, Deaf Club frontman Justin Pearson detailed a scathing timeline that lead up to the horrific events of that fateful day and shared how those tough discussions fueled both the track and the visual.

“I’m fully aware of the complexity of what 9/11 was and still is. I see how it resonated in different directions, starting with a low IQ political puppet on an aircraft carrier fumbling through a poorly written speech in front of an arrogant banner reading “Mission Accomplished”.

The dollar store PR stunt which only gradually got into focus for various people at some point showcased the ongoing business of global terror perpetrated by the U.S. Government. We can easily look back and see a linear trajectory predating the G.W. Bush Administration heading backwards to the Clinton administration when the government continued the war in Afghanistan which was started by the previous Bush, and before all that, with the Reagan administration bombing parts of the Middle East while fucking around with the Iran Contra scandal."

Pearson went onto connect the harrowing events of a generation ago to the current climate of continued geopolitical divisiveness and how humanity continues to be compromised. "You’d think we could see it now with clear focus in relation to the U.S. Government’s support for genocide in Palestine, and today in DC, with the infant stages of a visible police state. Yeah, we can pick a side in a two party system who are just inbred cousins of a bigger system that always points towards war, the business of war, and the lack of humanity, as well as the lack of intellect to negotiate peace.

So you can “never forget” 9/11, and you can also just forget, because the politics of war are not concerned with anyone’s wellbeing.”

"Pain In the Assery" is featured on Deaf Club's pending sophomore full length release, We Demand a Permanent State of Happiness. The LP is due out September 19th via Southern Lord Records and Three One G Records. Order the album - HERE
