Veteran extreme metal practitioners Defeated Sanity have begun their debut campaign with Season of Mist, as the band has set a November 22nd release date for their seventh studio album, Chronicles of Lunacy. The album serves as the first showing in four years, following the acclaim of the band's 2020 LP, The Sanguinary Impetus.

Working with venerated producer Colin Marston, the latest from Defeated Sanity ushers in a return to form for the longtime brutalizers - working to revisit the intensity and intricacy that first earned the band widespread acclaim. “The last few DS albums leaned heavily on the proggier side of our sound”, says drummer and founding member Lille Gruber.

“We still like to experiment, but on our new album, we wanted to get back to the raw slamming that our fans love about Psalms of the Moribund or Chapters of Repugnance”.

Making an emphatic introduction, Defeated Sanity have debuted the first offering from the album and their first showing new material in four years with the release of "The Odour of Sanctity". Bridging modern precision and production polish with timeless metallic chaos, the single underscores the band's punishing pedigree and their commitment to consistently pushing their performative limits.

"In true DS fashion, 'Odour' showcases the full range of our sound", the band explained. "It's freaky but also unrelentingly brutal, which represents the crossroad that we ended up at on Chronicles of Lunacy. Even though the album can get pretty fucking weird, there's still a emphasis on straight-up slamming"

Referencing the creative vision for the new album, Defeated Sanity spoke about how Chronicles of Lunacy is about sourcing the band's earliest achievements and bringing that into their new era. "We wanted to keep some of the fidelity that's associated with modern death metal", the band says, "but Chronicleshas more of the raw production style that stood out on Psalms and Chapters".
